THE IMPORTANCE OF AUDIOBOOKS IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING
Abstract
Recent studies have revealed that listening is a prerequisite to other language skills such as speaking,
reading and writing and hence plays a very important role in foreign language acquisition. As a result, it seems
extremely important to develop learners’ listening skills so that they will become competent users of the English
language. The aim of the article is to show how audiobooks may be incorporated into the English classroom
and used for educational purposes. In addition to providing background information concerning the listening
ability, the authors investigate the educational value of those ‘talking books’ and describe how to organise an
audiobook-based lesson.
